Island of Rhodes

The beach and the monuments all together

The old town from the ship
The old town of Rhodes is inside massive old walls that have protected the city since old times. In old times the town was divided in two parts, one where lived the royal people and the other where lived the Greeks, Jews and the common Europeans. The walls were build to protect the town and it was divided in sections given to knights to maintain. These walls are around 35 fts and in some places up to 50 fts high. We have eleven gates (pilia) to access inner Old Town and the most known is "Eleftherias" and "Tarsanas" and "Thalassini".

Old Town

The eleven gates are the only way to enter in the old town. At northeast, we have the Eleftherias Gate, and that the only access to the Mandraki Harbour was added more recently near this gate. A few meters south we have the Tarsanas Gate, a gate used by traffic and the original access to the harbour. These were the only two I've used.

Mandraki Harbour

I’ve arrived in a cruise and like my wife was pregnant we couldn’t explore the all town. So we just stayed in the old town, and I must tell you that we didn’t had time to see all the things we want, because there is a lot of things must see in Old Town of Rhodes. We finish the visit walking near the Harbour and admiring the beauty of the beaches
