Perast is the first place at which we stayed during our fortnight in Montenegro in 2005. It has a history as a significant maritime city, but is now an attractive fishing village, where the inhabitants appear to enjoy a generally leisurely way of life in stunningly beautiful suroundings.

We spent the morning of our first full day in Montenegro exploring it, including visiting Gospa ad Škrpjela Island and the Church of St Nikola, and, in the afternoon, we sunbathed and swam from the swimming area at the eastern end of its shore. We then finished the day with a meal at the Amfora Restaurant (now the Konoba Milinovic).
From the Boka Bay Bed And Breakfast, where we were staying, we were able to watch the fishermen in their boats, children enjoying themselves in the water and people sitting and chatting or strolling along the water's edge.

At breakfast one morning, after hearing a horn sounding loudly and moving round the bay, a small cruise liner appeared and glided past the window; and, on our final day there, the bay was full of yachts which had arrived for a local regatta, as well as a tall ship which had moored and been illuminated the previous evening.

We stayed at the Boka Bay Bed and Breakfast again in 2007, during which I went for a couple of swims along the shoreline in front of Perast: an enjoyable way of seeing it! During our first evening back there, we ate at the Restarant Conte, and during our last evening there we ate at the Konoba Milinovic.

We revisited Perast with our son in daughter in law in 2008, when we took them to Gospa ad Škrpjela Island and up the tower of the Church of St Nikola.
