The Number 1 Bridge, from Orange Island

The Han Tomb of Mawangdui

In 1978 the Herald Sun in Melbourne Australia reported a startling discovery in Changsha, china of the very well preserved remains at Mawangdui. These mummified remains intrigued both my grandfather and I, so much so that when I was offered an oportunity to come to China, I chose Changsha to be the first city for me to visit. Thus started my ongoing love affair with China, it's people and its culture.

Orange Island

Changsha is split by the Changjinag He and in the middle of this is a delightful island called Orange Island. Local stories intimate that it was a favorite spot for the youthful Moa Zedong to visit and compose poetry in his grass script style.
