The lobby is spacious and has nice comfortable leather couches. The staff was welcoming and helpful at the check-in counter. The room was very dated (1980's decor I guess) but it was clean. The carpet had been left wrinkled after what had seemed to be a steam cleaning. The bathroom is really dated and has laminate on the walls of the shower. My pet peeve: a wet fabric shower curtain that sticks to you as you shower...YUK! But it happens I guess. I must admit though, the water pressure in the shower was amazing! It is actually rare to see in this day and age of water and power savings...
The room service menu was varied and prices were surprisingly affordable. The windows do not open but there is a massive ventilation system built under the window. There is a cabinet for an iron and ironing board but no iron or ironing board in it. I just had to call Housekeeping and I got what I needed promptly. The television offers a good selection of channels. There is a kettle with coffee and tea available in the room. There is also a fridge in the room.
I am told it is better to get a room with a window facing the courtyard, away from the Tube station.
The downstairs coffee shop, Cafexpress, offers a selection of take-away items and their cappucino was really good.
The hotel definitely needs an update as the room I had was stuck in a timewarp... The small twin bed was actually comfortable.
May 2007, I returned for three days this time. The carpet in the room was better and there was an iron with an ironing board in my room. The room service food was very good (too jetlagged to get out there...)
Unique Qualities: The location is perfect! 5 minutes walk from Kensington High Street Tube Station.
