Beautiful city full of charm. The architecture is wonderful - you can stroll for hours along the canals and just take in the beautiful surroundings. There are very many places to visit within the old town area and all are best visited on foot. The only draw back is that lots of people are in love with Bruges and the central old city area can get crowded especially on a holiday weekend. It is a good location for exploring some of the countryside, especially the Flanders Fields area of World War I infamy.
- Pros:Beautiful, wonderful architecture, lots to do
- Cons:central part of old town gets crowded on weekends and holidays
- In a nutshell:It's nicknamed Venice of the North - and it's true!

That's a good idea to stay in a traditional house in Bruges --- I always stay in hotels and maybe I should try different...
Brugge is wonderful and the best times to go are when few others do. I found even in May there were fewer tourists
