And another Ponte Vecchio Bassano has a Ponte Vecchio that I actually found much prettier than the Ponte Vecchio in Florence. The views to the north from the bridge are of the Dolomites. The bridge is pretty much the symbol of the town and what most people think of when Bassano is mentioned. It has two other names as well: Ponte degli Alpini and Ponte di Palladio. Palladio apparently designed the current version of the bridge which is a rebuild of his original as the Brenta River and numerous wars have taken the toll. The bridge is of wood. |
