Chartres is most famous for its cathedral | The famous Chartres Cathedral |
Traveling towards Chartres was an emotional experience. I was miles away to the west and could see the spires sticking straight up into the sky. The cathedral was surrounded by golden fields below and clear blue sky up above. I realized what a marker this was for people of the past who were traveling to the area. |

| | Enjoyable self-guided walk There is a very enjoyable self-guided walk that makes a circuit around the old part of town. You can walk along the river, see old bridges, buildings and chruches. It is a nice walk and you can rent an audio-guide from the tourist office. |
