Getting there.

Some of the best fun in going to Laos is getting there and getting around. Similarily organized in terms of SEA typical backpack transport, Laos is a bit of a step back in terms of development...and I mean that in a great way!
There are various options to go from place to place, with that said, at times there were no options at all....well maybe a VIP bus vs a regular bus. Seemingly though, local transport and tourist transport blended in at times.....this was pleasant and different then say, Thailand. Local busses were easier than expected and the caravan of mini vans going from place to place on a daily basis made travel in Laos, social, cheap and always full of a good story - albeit some great, and some not so favourable.
This is though why I travel and thus an important component to any of my trips.
We spent just over 2 weeks in Laos and it was amazing. Having been to Thailand a few times it was great to extend our trip to a new place this time around.
If you go there, enjoy, travel slow, and plan on staying longer than expected. Food is generally great but can be repetitive. Cheap prices still, although changing.

Beer Laos

Beer Laos.

Laos has maintained a very low key approach to living, entertaining, working and living. Throughout the country......read here slowly partiers.......they observe an 11:30pm curfew. Thats right, every where you go youll notice places closing very early with the last watering holes announcing last call at 11pm. Generally we were bakc to our bungalow by midnight after catching the last vendor selling a couple more Beer Laos, water and chips. You can stay up and chillin on any private balcony till the wee hours if desired, and we did.
