Typical bungalow set up.
Stayed at this place for four nights including over New Years! We met some awesome people there and had a little sort of family....we were able to get to tong sala for thai boxing (by taxi) and we were way out of the way without being to much out of the way. If your into a little ore rustic scenario than this is for you....one of those places without electricity during the day until they turn the generator on around 6pm....it is what it is and you either love this sort of thing or loath it....for us it was pure paradise!
See other pics of the area in things to do and transportation.
Unique Qualities: Took the Long boat up the coast from Tong Nai Pan...5 of us....prob cost $250 baht ea...but it was a 45 minute trip so well worth the cash...and again, arriving in style.
You have to be careful because a lot of the time they places dont look like much (and they really arent) but they are certainly more comfortable and clean than you can see from a boat....
I have not shown a large panaramic photo on purpose in my little attempt to leve some of the guessing up to you and as well keep this little oasis of the beaten track...its a hard one to find but it has to be my favorite time on the island....good luck on your search for one of these places.
Comparison: least expensive
Price: less than US$20

I have stayed at Dreamland on both my trips to Tong Nai Pan.....its one of about 10 places to stay on the beach, I would think though, one of the better ones. Price and cleanliness are good....the food is ok as well, the bbq the best. Facilities are decent, with a whole new restaurant recpetion building this yr - they were working on it last yr. Internet access, day tours, scuba and internet - all on site. Workers are friendly and efficient.
Check it out - 5 photos uploaded.
Unique Qualities: Full Menu at the restaurant from 7am to 10 or 11pm. Group Taxis 100 baht to Tong Sala.
Bungalows with fans and cold water as well as ones with A/C and hot showers about 200 baht more.......great location.

The chickens and rooster are under the deck.
New Years eve 2005....arrived at Hadd Rin sometime around 1pm....looked everywhere for a place to stay. A couple aussies and Amy and I took turns between looking for a bungalow AND having beers on Chicken corner. Finally - and by complete luck - we found a single bungalo on the sunset beach. Basically the place was bairly suitable for us to leave our packs....after all, it was new yrs and we werent going to sleep anyway.
Well, as we thought, it was the absolute worst place I have ever stayed.
Moral of the story, when you are desperate your standards will drop immensely. Since it was new yrs, we had no choice BUT it was better than the alternative of having no where to stay. There are many many places on the island of this low low quality....Yikes, even by my standards it was terrible.....we high tailed out of there the next morning at 9am...I might never have felt dirtier! Be careful to plan and adaptable if you have to spend a single night (in a jam) in a plce like this.
Unique Qualities: Just outside of town on the sunset side....at least night was quieter than sunrise side....music wise anyway.

restaurant to the left, store to the right.
After passing by by Dreamland resort and all the additons and construction going on - not to mention only one room available with AC(boo) and for 1200B/night....you can thank the addition of the pool for that increase.......we walked along the beach and inquired at the different places....althought being High season there were some available for rent and we were able to look around a bit for price and whatever else.
In short we came across Starlite Bungalows. A nice little place with probably 10 units in their upper level, 10 in the moderate level and an additional 6 in the lower end.
Price was right though and the restaurant was right there.....we scoped out the area and it was right beside a store with internet and everything else you could possibly need.....cold beer too!
Beach of course was on sight and there was evening BBQ.
Staff seemd nice enough and helpful except during the hrs of 11am-5pm when they sort of sat around in typical fashion....chatting sewing and eating snacks....the odd time sweeping - cant forget that.
None the less they were nice and helpful most the time - once they are familiar with you, they were personable sometimes.
NOTE: we realized the place was run by one Lady (we called her the Madam).....all the girls were workers and worked the restaurant and renting rooms....Madam sat in the store collecting cash from customers and guarding the till like it was a pot of gold. We found her rude, mistreating of the girls and generally a ***. In my quest to proove a point, I stopped shopping there or using the internet -it was way over priced and rarely worked - Madams calculator worked though.
...check out Madams caged birds on the customs page.
Unique Qualities: Bungalows were very well priced and we got the modrerate one. It was on a pathway about 20 yards from the restaurant and beach. Ceramic floors, fan, no tv, nice balcony with trees for shade and privacy.
Restaurant was ok....actually served very good bacon, get the bacon plate if you need a meat fix.
If you are on a super low budget, check out the basic bungalow....at the time they were going for 200B/night....we only paid about 300 for ours, sweet!
....and then we end up staying for 10 days.

5 mins after arrival - chillin
Evening BBQ was our food of choice in the evening. Selection of fish, chicken, praws, etc. along with baked potato and corn on the cob.
Plates came complete with a bit of salad and the sauces.
Breakfast was typical fruit or eggs. As mentioned before the bacon plate was the best Id encounted in SEA on any trip.....6-8 big slices, 50B.
Unique Qualities: Some of the things were hit and miss there.....but I guess thats like anywhere you go in Thailand. Sad to say but it was convenient and of course easy to put the food on tab.
During the day time we could grab beers from the fridge and put on the bill...alos shakes and the odd plate of fries for munchies.
They also had a couple volley balls we could use free o charge.
