the trip to Harbin in 1997 was way before i was a member of VT and before i came to live in the UK in 2000 so all my pics were in Sydney and would have gone from storage sorting last year in Sydney to NZ - might be able to look for them in a few weeks time actually

Hi Angie, Harbin looks too cold for me. How is life treating you. Intend to visit China 2011, researching. Just home from 3 weeks in northern Thailand with the orchid society.

Hi Angela - I've taken the plunge and booked a flight to Shanghai - my first trip to China! :-) Just sorting out the visa application forms now. I've seen photos of the ice carvings at Harbin in the past - they look amazing!

Hi Angela! Glad to hear that your China adventure is continuing! It sounds like you'll have covered a lot of the country's main sights before you come to leave. Your other plans for exploring the surrounding countries sound exciting too.
We're off to the Seychelles in mid-March - looking forward to some snorkelling, some lazy beach time and some fresh seafood! :-)

wow the Seychelles! you are certainly progressing in your list of amazing places! Right now im in Pingyao which is famed for its old town that is still relatively untouched and complete with wall right around it (as many old towns in China are very wierdly being pulled down and rebuilt - eg Datong a bit north of here has apparently had 50 billion yuan doing just that - which also entails moving all the locals out!) was here last year but as visiting an organisation only half an hour by fast train north of here I thought i might as well come back and be here for any additional atmosphere with Spring festival next week - but on arriving been told that it is actually THE place to be for the Spring festival main day but i will have to have gone by then as really want to get to Beijing to clean my camera lens before it closes for a week or more (10 days i think over SF) - but even more so have come down here to rest up a really badly sprained ankle lol, such a relief i didnt break it!...so I probably cant really go to Datong as theres a lot of walking needed to see the sights there.
the fresh seafood during your trip should be amazing! not to mention the beautiful views under the water!

no only a hat, which i found 2 years ago when sorting storage in Sydney and if I remember rightly promptly added it to bag of stuff going to the charity shop!

Did you get any good photos of the ice buildings? It's definitely a little-known but must-see sight, isn't it.
