Fast tour with mum to Switzerland

Our first trip to Europe from NZ and Australia we took too long driving around England, Scotland and Ireland so the great intentions to travel far and wide on the continent turned into a 4 days rush from Paris heading south! we drove down through Dijon and ended up in Lauterbrunnen - trying to decide where to stay the hotels around town looked expensive for commercial fairly unexciting hotels - at the closed tourist centre at the train centre there was accommodation info for the locality, referring to my guidebook Wengen seemed to sound interesting. By then it was dark but a nice woman answered the phone to the number provided and it seemed the thing to do!

Park the car and go

It was dark and getting late - apparently the thing to do was park our car in the public carpark and jump on a train heading 'up' obviously a more 45 degree looking railway line gradient.
So off we went with our overnight things. Mum has nightblindness so this was all part of more adventure for her! we knew we would be met at the train station - and we were! - by a horse and carriage! and then up to our hotel. From what seemed still fairly summery where we had come from we were up in a somewhat chill and we could see our breaths! and then yes i noticed snow on the ground.
Up to our hotel, something out of an old ski romance in the alps sort of story book hotel! A grande dame introduced herself, and we later saw her in all the old photos with celebrities around the walls. We had an excellent cup of tea in the Salon and yes we were rather enjoying ourselves.

Waking up to Wengen

Well with the sun coming up in the distance could now see what was out our windows!! snow coavered fir trees and old fancy hotels! Huge mountain sides covered in snow and it was looking like another world!!
Down in the distance was a slight view of the valley we had come up from with bits of green floor showing.

a bit of a roam around the rather elegant looking village and snow and back down in the train in daylight to see the lovely view before us of the beautiful valley of Lauterbrunnen, with waterfall, swiss mountain huts and cows with bells!
