"Day trip from Ayios Nikolaos" Kritsa by angiebabe
Kritsa Travel Guide: 5 reviews and 22 photos
A popular excursion from the beautiful blue waters of the beach resort town of Ayios Nikolaos is to the 'traditional village' of Kritsas 10 km away. Buses leave at least every hour from the bus station.
I drove about 20 minutes by car from Neapolis.
2 km before Kritsas is the Byzantine church of Panayia Kyra which inside survives perhaps the most complet set of Byzantine frescoes in Crete. The fourteenth and fifteenth century works have been retouched but are rather beautiful and worth the visit - but the damper is that no photos allowed! There is a small shop there though, along with selling religious icons, has 2 versions of books full of information and photos of the frescoes inside the lovely church. Entrance was 3 euro. There is a cafe restaurant directly across the road (with the only toilets around until Kritsa)

nice small page here, I never use flash too inside churches and museums no matter if its allowed or not
Yes true if we care about especially the ancient places we visit and the effects of strong light such as camera flash we will take the opportunity to have the modern cameras that these days are designed to capture light well enough to take photos with minimum risk. Thanks for visiting my page. It was a lovely village and historical site to visit.
Hi Angie - Thanks for sharing your pics and tips on Ktitsa - they brought back happy memories of my trip there around 1988.
I agreed the beared lady looks like a man :)
cool pics here angie :-)
I loved your photos taken while just driving around Kritsa! Very colourful and quaint scenes that reminded me of rural Portugal.
Great pictures.
Midday=siesta time! Lovely people photos
Great start, Angie! That bearded "lady" does look very masculine! :-o Good luck finding a cheap flight to Scandinavia! :-) Think I might search for some flights for myself - could do with a nice weekend somewhere overseas! :-)
