Cidadela - 'one of the most memorable sights'

The Cidadela, a circle of perfectly preserved medieval walls enclosing a white medieval village and rising to a massive keep and castle - 'one of the most memorable sights in Portugal' and the embodiment of the towns dynastic history.
The Bragancans were the last line of Portuguese monarchs ruling from 1640 when they replaced the Spaniards, with the Duke of Braganca taking the throne as Joao IV, until the fall of the monarchy in 1910.
