Villa Rufolo - those famous photo sites!

Any intrepid traveller surely must have come across those famous shots of the Amalfi Coast taken from Ravello - with the round topped church tops and blue blue sea and bit of bright contrasting Bougainvillea - the Lonely Planet refers to Ravello as giving the best views of the Amalfi Coast.

Those fast buses winding up those mountain roads!!

After my exhilerating trip winding around how many corners in a big, fast bus in the dark but still -able-to-see-the-dramatic-distance-directly-below us on that winding road to my hostel up at Agerola-San Lazzaro and then the exhilerating repeat journey the next morning in daylight i was really getting anticipation excitement about my forthcoming 930 am bus up to Ravello! The sun was up and shining in readiness too!

Further stunning options - Villa Cimbrone!!

In addition to touring the stunning gardens of the Villa Rufolo is the Villa Cimbrone, a 10-15 minute lovely walk through the village with cobbled stone streets and mansions and small vineyards and designer patio gardens, away to another lovely (lots of lovely!! its Ravello!) vantage spot on those huge look out hills above the Amalfi Coast. These villas go right back to the Romans on holiday days!
So theres history in addition to classy gardens and arcitecture and the stunning scenery

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Stylish style and class high up looking down over beautiful sea and colourful towns and villages and terrace groves, smell the wonderful scent under the pine trees up in the fresh air in the gardens of Villa Cimbrone, the stunning 3km steps walk back
  • Cons:Its a long way uphill! do take the bus! unless you are training for mountain climbing endurance etc!
  • In a nutshell:I am thrilled I have been and seen and greatly enjoyed! All my senses were greatly blessed!

Oh dear ange, it's only a 40 minute walk up the hill and adds even more to the experience. Don't be daunted by a few steps...
    Cheers, Ian

yes i agree but it was a lovely bus ride up too! i think if people don't have much time, like i surely didn't - i only had 2 nights ie a night in Amalfi and a night in Positano with a late night flight back to London - then a bus up and make the effort to walk back down is a good idea :)

Beautiful photos and great tips! I visited Ravello 16 years ago and wish I had done the walk back down to the coast then. Sounds like a lovely walk!

Yes, Internet really takes up a lot of time, not all bad, but some of the time spent here could really be used for doing more important things.

for sure...and amazing how the time just disappears...just a few more minutes, oh and just this and just a few more minutes and then before you know it 3, 4 or 5 hours has gone by! and then it becomes a daily habit lol! ive got to get a grip as its not actually getting me very far!...not even been spending that time on VT tips which I should be doing!

Excellent tip. Those winding uphill roads on the Amalfi Coast, though, scare the pants off me (case of bus-cliff-phobia). Cheers!
