lovely Hammamet beside the sea

There are 2 Hammamets - one set aside miles away south of the original for the tourists and their huge all included resorts and original Hammemet with its fort beside the sea.

south Hammamet

Huge resorts, huge hotels, huge and grande scale - had a good drive around these roads of hugeness, and enoyed a stop along the way for a christmas eve coffee and then to a very nice but expensive restaurant for christmas seafood meal - well presented and professional staff.
and then back to Hammamet more for the locals?

Sights around Hammamet

I love architecture and one very pleasing visit was to the Villa Sebastian - now the Hammamet International Cultural Center where all sorts of conventions and festivals such as the Hammamet International Music Festival are held with plays, music, ballet in the ampitheatre there beside the sea.
Villa Sebastian is regarded as one of the most beautiful villas of the Mediterannean, set in beautiful gardens with over 300 species of plants, it was where prominent people such as Winston Churchill and Rommel and an array of artists came to visit and create.

Pros:"enjoyed there being a cafe on top of the kasbah - sat and sipped on lovely orange juice with interesting views over the sea and medina"
Cons:"hyped up for the tourists, tourist prices, cheesey mermaid statues in the centre of the roundabout and cheesey costumed men trying to sell flowers"
In A Nutshell:"a kasbah with nice beach and views"

I have been to Hammamet when it was still a nice place (not so long ago!). I know that it is now a tourists processing plant and I am not tempted to visit it again! Or may be for fun!
