Visiting in the cold of winter in snow My first visit to a concentration camp in Europe and this one was the very first Nazi concentration camp, built in 1933.
I had been the year before to the worlds largest holocaust museum in New York which was very moving and watched loads of info through my growing up years in New Zealand and Australia but it was interesting to actually to be at one of these places. Being in winter there was snow on the ground but the sun was out so for me it wasnt too cold - but what about those who had to endure the merciless imprisoners!
In the fairly extensive museum part I was moved when i read that they had started including in their list of those to be killed those considered genetically mutant which would have included my mother for her hearing defects!! |
Concentration camp barracks and gas chambers Not a lot left as most was destroyed but the foundations of the barracks are mapped out and there is a rebuilt copy of one of the barracks, and there are sad remains of the gas chambers. |

| Pros: | "an earthly reminder of the results of mans cruelty to man - especially when one thinks their opinions are above the rights of others" |

DAO Wed Apr 23, 2008 18:37 UTC This place scared me. Uganda is right on the Equator, so hot and sunny all year round. Rainy seasons are Mar-May, Sept-Nov. Theoritically it has winter when we do. You get very little hassle here. Its ok. |
