In 2006 this was the first Virtual Tourist page on Ochsenfurt. It is great to see other tipsters have added pages about this pretty Bavarian town.
Ochsenfurt is a small, busy and very picturesque fortified town. It lies at the most southerly point of the 'Main Dreieck' ~ that is, the (River) Main Triangle. Around 16km south of Wurzburg. Certainly worth stopping by for a walk around its historic streets and maybe a bite for lunch.
Website (in German) www.ochsenfurt.de
The town's main shopping thoroughfare
Hauptstrasse, winds through from one
town gate to the other. Some of the large
timbered houses on the right date from
the 1260's!!
In 2007 the street was stylishly repaved,
with the addition of some modern sculpture
As well as shops, bakeries, cafe's and a
few banks, you can find the 'old' and 'new'
Rathauser and the towns main church.
Plenty of opportunities to reach for
the sketchbook here!
This was one of my efforts, looking down
Unterbadgasse. In the centre of the
picture is the slender spire of the 18th century
Kreuzkirche.

- Pros:Historic and well cared for. A busy town with decent shops.
- Cons:Could make more of its attractions. Old Bridge demolished.

WE are to go to this area in 2012, so thanks for the tips on this town
I cant believe the bridge has gone. It was heartbreaking to see one of my main childhood memories demolished. I saw it when I was last there December 2007 and was truly shocked.
Excellent "first VT page on the lovely town". I hope you didn't sign your nickname on every wall in Ochsenfurt :)
Ahh yes!!! Ochsenfurt!!!.... ..never heard of it! Looks nice though... what were you doing there?? :)
Sean, I didn't know that you were in Germany at the beginning of December. Fabulous little page. I am glad you found out that the Germans have a good sense of humour, but I hope you knew that already before your visit of Ochsenfurt. :o)
Cycling both ways on the one-way streets is getting quite common in Germany -- we can even do it legally in Frankfurt now. (Did it illegally all along.) How did you happen to visit Ochsenfurt, of all places? Nice sketch of the Unterbadgasse.
It is strange that there are no other Pages on a place as interesting as this! That is quite a performance put on by the Rathaus clock!! Great photos and information and I loved your tale of the wild boar!
