Bristol is a large, green and watery city in the southwest of England. It has a tremendous history at the very heart of English commerce for centuries. You can see the churches, houses, grand brick warehouses and imaginative modern town planning as proof. Today it is developing a strong reputation for good design and ecological common-sense...
...and a Balloon Festival.

| whatever floats your boat |
| | There is a large, busy body of water running through the centre of the city. There are many ships and a very popular system of ferry boats.
This is not the River Avon but is a Floating Harbour. Though I am not entirely sure how a harbour 'floats'! It connects to the tidal river at the far western edge of Bristol, where ships would travel a further eight miles to the sea.
Many of Bristol's attractions lie close to the Floating Harbour, from Temple Meads train station to the Arnolfini Gallery, Watershed Centre, Millennium Square, Industrial Museum (being rebuilt 2009) and, of course, the SS Great Western. |
