| Heavy industry still punctuates the city |
Massive, exciting connurbation of contrasts, but not Scotland's capital - for that you need to go East to the more refined city of Edinburgh.
But Glasgow seems to have everything in large doses. It feels almost like London, or Leeds, because of its many long shopping streets, large buildings and crowds.
Exciting for me because of its buildings by the great architect and designer, Charles Rennie Mackintosh. A visit to Glasgow is not complete without a trip to Mackintosh's Glasgow School of Art.
European City of Culture 1990 and UK City of Architecture and Design 1999. |

I will definitely visit the School of Art if I ever go there. Haggis for brekkie is a frightening thought, and so is the prospect of running into more people like my mother-in-law (a Glaswegan) |
