At the moment a great city like Cork needs more decent VT pages, so here goes....
Cork exceeded my expectations. It is Eire's second city after Dublin and is in the middle of the island's southern coast. On the edge of one of the biggest natural harbours in the world!! It is also built on its own island and the city centre was once criss-crossed with canals.
If you are reading this in 2006 or later, then you have missed Cork's year as City of Culture 2005. Oh well, there was lots of new building work taking place when I visited, so no doubt you will reap the benefits of this ;-)
Lots to see, both in the city and the surrounding area. The Irish seem to have a very laid back attitude to their culture and heritage. Maybe this will change as the loud, boisterous stag parties transfer themselves from Dublin to Cork. There were lots of nationalities visiting the city from all over Europe and America. And a large number of Eastern Europeans it seems - the Swansea to Cork ferry was crewed by Poles!!
See also my Cobh Page, for info on the pretty port 10 miles south.
BE WARNED - I KISSED THE BLARNEY STONE. SO MAYBE I WILL NOW WRITE 49 TIPS OF 1100 WORD EACH. AAAAAARRGGH!!!
- Pros:Friendly, not too small or too big, water everywhere, loads of attractions
- Cons:Possibly the next Irish city to be trashed by drunken stag parties
- In a nutshell:Forget Dublin, you gotta go here!

nice cork page:)
I loved cork. The Irish made me laugh my whole trip.
Hahaha - laughing out loud here @ your description of this interesting place. It's nice to turn into a stereotype-type tourist from time to time, isn't it? So, did you sleep in the kitchen?
Parkview sounds great, except we would need a car space! :( Thx for a lovely page with some excellent tips!! We are going there later this year, Lance's fam come form here :) Jen x
Fantastic info and pics. I have just recieved an invitation to visit Cork for my friend's wedding.:)
Well done, Sean - you have convinced me that Cork should be on my next Ireland itinerary! Quite an unusual cathedral with it's four large towers. Great tips on the sights of the city. I like to stay in B&Bs too, and your spot sounds very interesting!
Seems to be a very interesting city! Thank you for sharing!
I am glad to read that you didn't get the "gift of the gab" yet. When I was there I was sure that it doesn't work, so I didn't kiss that lovely stone ... :o)
aaaaarrrghh on absolute top form in ireland. check it out.
