"Hilltop town on the Costa Tropical" Top 5 Page for this destination Almuñécar by aaaarrgh
Almuñécar Travel Guide: 65 reviews and 99 photos
One of the 'white villages' on the Costa Tropical, east of Malaga. There is actually quite a bit to see and do here. Apparently far cheaper than Nerja, its prettier, more famous neighbour along the coast.
At the top of the town is its Castillo, which contains an interesting museum of Almunecar's history. And we are talking about lots of history here, Phoenician, Roman, Arab and sixteenth century Christian.
- Pros:Some pretty streets and interesting attractions.
- Cons:Some ugly streets. The beaches have pebbles not sand.
- In a nutshell:A pleasant, white, hilltop, seaside town. Worth a visit.

Lovely page on Almunecar Sean. Looks to be a good choice for a day trip while we're in Torremolinos in January. Are most things to see near the bus station and is the town walkable?
headding back to Almunecar next month, never did see that ship-house - rust try this time! Enjoying your tips, thanks.
laurie lee eh ? i thought rosie with cider was crap..but what do i know ?
Wonderful tips on an interesting place. Keep on rambling......
Haha - there is one surreal "boat in the dry" in Dalmatian hinterland as well - used to be a sea restaurant. And that monument is definitely shaped after a lighthouse, not a chimney ;)
It just been more than a year that we do not stop in almuñecar. I guess the ship thing became very popular on the early 80´s through a tv series where a captain lived in his boat on the mountain in nerja :-)
"Pebbles not sand"?? funny... the pics don't look like Brighton! ;-)
