Known as "TY".
I was young when I stayed here, my uncle ran a company in Maseru. There was only one wide main street in TY, with some traditional craft shops. And the white population lived in large houses behind high walls, with swimming pools and servants. I wonder whether things have changed. Lesotho has gone through quite a turbulent political period since then!
Lesotho has, I believe, the highest lowest point of any country. It is a mountain kingdom. I remember seeing the Drakensburg Mountains in the sunset, like jagged orange teeth across the horizon.
One day we climbed in the VW camper van and drove across country on potholed dirt roads to the mountains. It was so rough I banged my head on the roof of the van several times. We passed the impressive hill fort, Thaba Bosiou, climbed up the mountain road, across a river, past a hotel and reached Blue Mountain Pass. Until recently, at 8,900 feet, this was the highest piece of ground I had ever been to.

first lesotho page i came across... i like the name of that country, it somehow sounds magical! maybe this is enough of a reason to go there?!
Yes indeed, much has changed in all of southern Africa since those days! My wife and I are plotting a trip here soon, maybe we can work Lesotho into our calculations!
