We have stopped at the small town of Deruta on a couple occasions. We particularly like the style of ceramics that are produced here. Unfortunately it tends to be very expensive and the quality between the different shops varies a great deal.
The clay is fired locally and each different store has their own painters. The detail and quality of the final glazes differ a lot so be sure and shop before you buy. Among the many items that we have purchased in the past, our coffee cups stand out as the real bargins. The first time we visited Deruta we purchased some for $10.00 a cup and thought it was high. The last time we went the cups were $15 and with the strong euro they are probably more now. Thinking we paid a big price for the cups we priced them at a local shop in Victoria, British Columbia. The asking price for the same cups was $50 each!!!!!! |
