Rocamadour is one of the seven great pilgrimage sites in the 10th and 12th century. The church is located half way up the cliffs with a castle/fort on the top and the town on the bottom. The population of the town is 780 people. A train runs through the town and the night train is very popular as the the town and hillside is illuminated. It is very spectacular!!
The town is named after St. Amadour and is situated above the river Alzou-the site of many miracles. The ramparts of the fort has protected the religious site below through many incursions.
The buildings were somehow joined with the sheer rock cliffs.
