A great medieval town | Sarlat is jammed with tourists during the summer |
Sarlat is a large town compared to the many small villages surrounding it. Sarlat is situated in a valley like area and generally can be quite hot in the summer. We stayed in the village of Turenne and found the town much cooler than Sarlat, even though it was situated fairly close.
Sarlat is a medieval town that has seen many destructive wars. The 100 year war and the religious wars were particularly hard on the town. Never the less, there are many medieval, beautiful homes and churches in the town. The town can trace its origins back to the 8th century. |
