Use Turenne as a base to explore Southern France

Turenne is only 1 hour south of Limoges and 16 km south of Brive. The town is absolutely beautiful and the surrounding hillsides very picturesque. The towns population is around 300 to 400 people. It's claim to fame, other than the castle and famous church is a local hero. Henri-de-la Tour d'Auvergne was from the town. Napoleon rated Mr. Auvergne as "the finest tactician of modern times". The castle/fortress is located just a short distance up the hill from the town. There is a tower, tower of Cesar, that you can climb for a view of the town and surrounding countryside.
The town was a perfect location for us to tour Southern France. It was located at a 4 way road junction, each taking us to a different area in France. The roads were only country roads but very picturesque. It was only about 10 min. to the main freeway which led to Paris.

To get to the main road you had to drive down this narrow road. Not enough room for cars coming in opposite direction so you had to check out on coming traffic.
