I'm nuts about New York City. I love the place, though I'm not too sure I'd want to live there. There's so much energy in Manhattan that it's exhausting. But it took me a long to time. For much too long New York was just too dangerous -- or so I thought, anyway -- to consider visiting, so for years I'd fly into Kennedy Airport and then fly straight out again. Finally, thanks to someone I met at Kathmandu Airport who lives just across the Hudson from Manhattan, I actually stopped for a few days -- at Christmas time yet, the very best possible time to visit --and I was hooked forever.
