Oman is without doubt one of the most fascinating countries in the Middle East. With a written history that goes back more than two millenia, it has a deeply rooted culture that is unique in the region. Prior to 1970 it was one of the most remote and difficult places to visit on the planet. Today it welcomes people from all over the world. With its relaxed and tolerant attitude toward strangers, you're sure to feel at home. (Oman is decidedly not Saudi Arabia!)
One caveat: Don't come in the summer when the temperatures can soar over 50 C (122F). |

| Pros: | "Superb beaches & diving; tolerant, engaging people; cosmopolitan atmosphere; wonderful winters." | | Cons: | "Hot as blazes in the summer; expensive hotels; (sometimes) chaotic and dangerous traffic." | | In A Nutshell: | "Oman is unquestionably the best and most tolerant place in the Arabian Gulf" |
