Cape Town is a stunner. Hands down, it is the most impressively-set city I've seen in years. In my experience only Sydney, San Francisco, or Hong Kong can rival it. A South African friend told me he had heard someone say that the this city is one of the eight or ten places on the planet that everyone should see at least once in his/her life. I agree absolutely.
Our introduction to C.T. could not have been better: a fellow VTer and native Capetonian, Glenn Kasmer, was kind enough to meet us at the airport, which was greatly appreciated after an 18 hour transit via Dubai and Nairobi. He whisked us into his 4x4 and the next thing we knew we were up above the city on Signal Hill looking down at the town and the sea beyond. However exhausted we were after the interminible flights, it was just the shot in the arm we needed to get our pulses racing again. This had to be one of the best ways to come to terms with the layout of the place. |
