Blyde River Canyon, World's Third Largest | A view off the escarpment to the dam on the Blyde |
Graskop is an excellent spot to park yourself in order to make forays into the surrounding Drakensberg mountains. Although it has a good number of restaurants and numerous hotels and guest houses, there's not a lot to see in the town itself. That said, people are very pleasant and very helpful, even if you don't happen to speak Afrikaans, which is to be expected, I suppose, since it is an Afrikaaner stronghold. There is a somewhat desultory-looking local outdoor market, but a stroll through will be quite enough. I'd recommend a stop at the tourist office to find yourself a room, if you haven't reserved anything in advance, and then head out of town for the canyon, which is the crown jewel of the northern reaches of the Drakensberg range. |

| Pros: | "Good place to stay and eat; Graskop Gorge Falls just outside town." | | Cons: | "Not much to see or buy in town." | | In A Nutshell: | "A good base for the surrounding splendors of the Drakensberg" |

Myndo Sun Feb 26, 2006 17:26 UTC Good page about that place, i liked it a lot. Just wished I could have stayed longer to walk around a little. Your accomodation sounds nice, too. |
