few days in Riga

I visited Riga only for few days time. Must say that did not explore the city or the country beforehand. My plan was just taking it easy.

Riga is rather small city. Everything seemed to be within walking distance. The local busses are cheap means of transport, if you'll find map of the lines from somewhere. Taxis were an interesting experience. Some drivers insisted to have a fixed price, which was way more than a local would pay for. Some drivers (minority in our case) put the taxi meter on right away. The taxi experience did leave a "bad taste in the mouth" as there were no taxi ride without arguing about using the meter unfortunately.

Riga has beautiful Art Nouveau -district, where one can stroll and admire the jugend -style houses. There was excellent food and lovely cafeterias, which had economical prices.

This is definately not a shopping destination but it is a nice weekend destination.

    I wouldn't like a hotel room where one cannot turn off the aircon. Otherwise the hotel sounds great.

    Wonderful start about Riga. The accomodation sounds indeed fabulous. Looking forward to reading more about the Latvian capital .... :-)
