Devision Memorial

As most people know Germany -as a result of World War II- was divided into West Germany (BRD) and East Germany (DDR). This wasn't only a devision of a country; also families and friends have been divided. Eastern Germany and his people were locked behind huge fences and the Berlin wall. Nevertheless people from West Germany could travel through East Germany to get to Berlin. If you came by car you had to cross twice the DDR border systems. I did it several times. They had hard controls to avoid their own people to take refuge from the DDR. Angry looking soldiers controlled every car and every person.

Marienborn was the main border point of the transit way to Berlin. After the end of the DDR and the communism they kept the buildings and made a memorial of it.
Entrance is free.

Michael I have been to Berlin several times and have seen the remenants of the division of Germany. I found it emotionally disturbing and the feelings last. Better days now? ronaldbarr

Thank goodness those times are over, very interesting read Michael. I assume anyone who was in prison for attempting to escape were released when the wall came down?
