This is one place that I can truly say that I'm glad I visited! There are some places, actually many places around the world that we have viewed from pictures, stories, or magazine articles that give you some sense of familiarity and understanding. Yet, when you go there in person it seems as though all of these have not prepared you in any way for the absolute majesty, natural beauty, and raw power that your eyes and senses behold. Such is my visit to Niagara Falls...
I have heard of this place all of my life, moreso because of the idiots that chose to risk life and limb in trying to survive a plunge here in a barrel. What were they thinking? Or, better yet, were they thinking? For many, it was a last thought. As for me, I enjoyed the beauty and wonder of this place and on dry land doing so was just fine... mighty fine!
A Footnote: Yesterday, 10/24/2005 I read that on "This Day in History" in 1901, Anna Edson Taylor, a 43 year old widow, became the first person to survive going over Niagara Falls in a barrel! How interesting is that??? Another Women's First! Stupid, but First! ;-)
