Restaurant Name: Bright Pearl
This was only my second time having Dim Sum (I've lived a sheltered life!) and was my best! Well, one out of two, what do you expect? Still, the Bright Pearl was a bustling, busy restaurant with lot's of people (always a good sign). The thing I like best about this style of cusine is that you don't have a big pile of food in front of your face and you feel like you must be in some race to finish or eat everything! This may have something to say about the growing obesity in America... Do 'ya think? Anyway, there is time to sip Green Tea between courses and generally the portions aren't so gagamongous especially when dining with a group of six or so.
I would definitely visit again and the company of VT'ers sharing the meal was great! So, DO DIM SUM DONE RIGHT at the BRIGHT PEARL!
Favorite Dish: Everything was great! I couldn't begin to tell you everything that I had, but it all was quite tasty and a pleasurable dining experience!

Restaurant Name: The Artful Dodger
One common theme in my travels seems to be finding a place I enjoy and feel comfortable. I think this is most important for a number of reasons. I'm not quite sure why this "comfortable" place always seems to be a pub or similiar establishment, but it does. How lucky I was to find "The Artful Dodger" on the same street as my lodgings, only a block away, and a stone's throw from Yonge Street!
The "On the Street" area that you will see in these pictures give some indication of the care & atmosphere created by the proprietor and he (or she) surely knows how to create a place that makes you want to return... nay, allows you to look forward to being there! I always took a table outside as it provided me an interesting view of Toronto. The inside seemed very much like I would imagine an English Pub to appear and the regular appearance of patrons seen again and again would indicate that this was a place to call one's own.
The menu was varied and somewhat typical fare, and as I only ate here once I cannot attest to a great many selections. But, I did see some great looking choices that patrons made and if sight and aroma counts for anything, it's definitely above average!
I just enjoyed being there and what more can you ask? The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. The "Dodger" suited me well. The New Castle draft was refreshing. And, best of all, I was a 3 minute walk from the Cromwell Suites. Perfect!
Favorite Dish: I enjoyed "The Artful Dodger" more as a filling station, a place of refuge & revigoration, and a place to end the excitement of a VT day. Still, on the evening Hot Sauce and I met here, we had a few beers (a few?) and also enjoyed a meal of appetizers. We had the Nacho Platter, Wings, and something else that escapes me now. All was good & plentiful. Next time here I promise to try some of the offerings I saw others enjoying.
For food or for brew, I think you will find this place most accomodating and well worth a visit. When in Toronto again, I Will Be Back, and I think that's the greatest compliment that you can give!

Restaurant Name: Pappas Grill
I was not on my VT toes on this first VT meeting. I admit to being a bit nervous (which quickly went away!) and it caused me to totally forget about taking exterior pictures of Pappas Grill. I can easily say that this restaurant was very friendly and a perfect place to begin a memorable weekend!
At first, the staff seemed to be as overcome with us as we were with each other, but both of us found our stride and soon all was well in tune. We dined, talked, laughed, danced (well, some danced) and mingled in the downstairs area. As the restrooms were also located on this level, I imagine that we got more than the usual look of curiosity from other patrons, but that's ok! It would be hard not to see the friendliness & genuine pleasure of being together that this VT group created.
Cudos to Pappas Grill and the VT ladies that brought us here!
Favorite Dish: Now I know why VT Ambassador Stephanie gave us VT notebooks! To make notes, maybe? I'm not sure, but think I had Soulvaki of some sort as my meal but I DO remember having no complaints and the prices here were very reasonable. So, I will leave it up to other VT members in attendance to provide more details. Surely someone out of 40 people can do a much better job than me on restaurant tips!

Restaurant Name: Hot House cafe
WooHoo! What a place!
You couldn't tell to look at me, but I'm not a very big eater (meaning I don't have a huge appetite). However, there places that I remember and places that offer such an amazing array of food that even I succumb to glutonous behavior. And only because I want to sample and taste everything! Well, it was not humanly possible here, but what a pleasurable challenge...
This was our final gathering as a VT group and again we were delighted with the choice for our Sunday brunch! I hope the pictures here will give some indication of the abundance of selections but I will try to embelish a bit more below.
Favorite Dish: As this was "brunch" I went first for breakfast, but where to begin? Eggs, Fresh Fruit, Sausages, Bacon, Pastries? Maybe you would like an omlette prepared with your desired ingredients as you watch? Or, perhaps you may follow my lead in first enjoying breakfast foods and then returning to cover the "lunch" selections as well. In my defense, this was a traveling day with energy needed to pack and drag my bags to the car, drive to the airport, and arrive home late in the evening. So, I was eating for the whole day... and I did!
Please believe me in saying that though I have experienced a few really good buffets in my time, this one would have to rank at the top along with "The Cloister at Sea Island", "Doral Country Club", and the breakfast buffet at our hotel in Stockholm. The point is if you are visiting Toronto, do yourself a favor and visit the "Hothouse Cafe" for a memorable experience in dining at a most reasonable price. Highly Recommended!

Yves76 Tue May 6, 2008 02:28 UTC the artwork in front of the Air Canada Centre is actually to be seen at night when it's lit up. When lit from the inside, it looks like stars (as cut out from the iron sculpture).
