Toronto was Great, and with VT was Greater! | A Portal View of Toronto from the CN Tower |
Finally, I am committing to building my Toronto pages. It has been 3 months since I was there and the sights, sounds, and memories of this fair city are with me still! That speaks to the vibrance and visual stimulation of Toronto! Also a factor were the 50 or so VT members that congregated there for 3 days (or more!) of memorable fun and friendship!
I can't promise that these pages will be completed in a few days because I simply have so many pictures and observances to share. But, I will try to refrain from procrastination. So, please come back often to visit and allow me to introduce this wonderful city to you in my own words. Toronto, I'm sure you could be in much better hands! :-)
"There are days that I remember" is a line from a Beatles tune and fits perfectly with my memories of this beautiful city and the beautiful VT People that met here! Be assured that Toronto can hold its own as a great city to visit but add an interesting mix of VT'ers and it becomes magical and memorable! More about the VT Meet later... Let's give Toronto her due!
As a means of introduction, Toronto is the largest city in Canada with a population of over 2.5 million. However, if you add the surrounding areas known as GTA (Greater Toronto Area) the population swells to nearly 5 million people, and surely must possess the greatest mix of humanity from all parts of the world. And, from my observations, it seems to coexist in polite respect if lacking understanding as would be natural. In some way, Toronto strikes me as a city with much in common by its inhabitants... many came from other places but for much the same reasons. Thus, there is a reason and place for tolerance and it seems to be apparent and working. Perhaps there is a lesson for us all in this?
So, come along with VT & me and explore this Canadian city that richly deserves its place among destinations to see! Follow the path and see if you agree!

| | We're not in North Carolina anymore, Dorosteve! Wow! If you're used to seeing these visuals, then you likely take them for granted or perhaps don't see them at all... If you're from Hickory, North Carolina they mesmerize and grab your attention to the fullest! Care to guess what these sights did for me? Oh, you're good and so intuitive! I wish I could tell you the names of these architectural wonders, but it really doesn't matter... The important part is how stunning and majestic they are and how the different shapes and contrasts seem to work together to form some collage. But let us not forget that these structures of glass and steel and concrete house people just like you and me. And without "us" they would not exist. Toronto, you're looking good!

Oh Canada! Oh Canada! I have been most fortunate to have experienced the opportunity to work and meet a number of people from our Canadian neighbor during my years of business, and I am always intrigued by them for several reasons. With fewer exceptions than Americans, they have always been most friendly and helpful. They are very professional and precise in their business relationships. And, surprisingly, they seem to feel some inferiority to Americans, for reasons that confound me. Mind you, I am not trying to generalize too much here and don't pretend to speak for Canadians, but simply attempt to make my personal observations known. So, they are not as large as the US in population nor do they agree with "us" in some things, but inferior? No Way! There are many things that Canada does that we would do well to learn. The foremost thing that comes to mind is pride... It is most obvious driving along the streets and highways of the huge expanse of this country, that trash is not a thing to be thrown out of the car so not to have to take the time to dispose of it on your next stop. There is also a courtesy and friendliness that doesn't question where you are from or why you are there, if different. There is a national pride that is justly deserved and should in no way feel inferior to any nation, as it is truly the "melting pot" of the world on the North American continent. I feel good there... I feel a part there though I don't live there... I feel Canada has something we don't. Humility and Honesty.
