South Africa's Playground

by dejavu2gb - last update: Jan 18, 2006

Durban, the 3rd biggest city in South Africa, and the seaside playground in the sun. Durban has always been one of my favourite cities in South Africa, as it possesses some charm to it. Its also got the busiest harbour in the whole of Africa, bringing many famous cruiseliners to its bustling harbour.

Its blessed being right on the warm Indian ocean, and also has long stretches of golden sandy beaches, on top of all this it also has gorgeous sub-tropical greenery all over the city.
Then if all of this sun, sea and sand is just too much for you, Durban has number of fantastic shopping complexes that offer a wide variety of options, there is the very large Pavillion and then the newly built Gateway complexes to choose from, and that is only naming a few, there are loads more!

Durban also plays host to many international sporting events, ranging from Golf, and surfing world championshops, to Cricket world cup, oh and before the rugby fans attack me, its also got Kings Park, which is a large stadium where many big rugby matches are held, and on the occasion also plays host to the venue for many big names in the entertainment industry.

To add to this list, the imfamous Comrades Marathon also takes place between Durban and Pietermaritzburg annually, this is of the tougest races in the world, and brings in keen runners from all over the world.

Durban is also very cosmopilitan and after dark, Durban comes alive offering a range of nightlife activities, ranging from elegant restaurants and bars to trendy nightclubs, so whatever the scene, Durban can accommodate it.

Used to go to Durb's a lot, now go to the beautiful clean beaches of the Eastern Cape - Port Alfred and Kenton.

The city hall looks beautiful. I was a bit disappointed with the marine park, but experienced a fantastic thunderstorm unlike anything I've seen before!
