Konstanz: where Rhein meets Bodensee

Architecture in Konstanz
Konstanz is a city located at the southwestern shore of the "Bodensee" or also Lake of Constance. It is what Germans call a "Kleinstadt" - small twon - with the flair of a small local student city. Konstanz has a University and therefore many young folks. Living standards here are high and living is safe, follows law and order and maybe reflects some traditional spirit.
The city is famous for closeby sights such as the "Flower island of Mainau", the Swiss border running through the southern part of the city, the nearby "Rheinfall of Schaffhausen" (a large waterfall of the Rhine River), beautiful architecture, good swimming in the clear waters of the Lake of Constance, expensive housing prices and a variety of nice cafes, bistros and restaurants.
It is good for shopping and on www.konstanz.de you can find out about local festivals, traditional folk marches, lake events and similar things of interest. This URL also feature a good interactive city map and exists in english langauge also.
Some door
Konstanz also features a City theater, Philarhomic Orchestra, huge library, museum of nature and other small museums and galeries.
Furthermore it is famous for good boat rides starting from the harbour of Konstanz around the lake and to other cities located on the lake`s shores. The harbour area and closebay walk ways are good fro long strolls, lying in the sun or inline skating and bycicling.
From www.konstanz.de:
Lake Constance is the largest lake in Germany with a surface area of 536 km² and a volume of 48,5 billion m³ of water. At its longest, the lake measures 69km and at its broadest it measures 14 km between Langenargen (D) and Rorschach (CH). The deepest part of the lake is 254m between Friedrichshafen (D) and Uttwil (CH).

Pros:"Overlookable, small, beautiful, good relaxing, shopping and eating out, good for summer nights and boating"
Cons:"Not many, maybe high rents and some traditional attitudes"
In A Nutshell:"A great place to spend 2 or 3 days ...probably also on of Germanys most enjoyable small cities to live..."
