I have never been a huge fan of articficial park landscapes or garden like parks. However, the flower island of Mainau within the Lake of Constance has really given it to me. This island - allthough small - offers walks and strolls along incredibly artisitcly architected meadows full of the most crazy flower breeds. Tulips from all over the world, roses, lillies, orchids, and many many others compete for the visitor attention.

Mainau is a fantastic idea on a sunny day. You will get a cool breeze coming from the lake, there are wonderful meadows to lie and read a book or take a nap, there is great motives for photographers and many hidden spots for a nice picnic. Befor I came I alsways thought mainau is something for seniors - so older people - but I was wrong. If you are in the area it is definitely worth a visit.

There is not only flowers but nice walking in light forests, caffees and snack bars, good people watching, benches for sunbathing and in summer you can even swim and hop into the crytal clear waters of Lake Constance. So if you visit Constance (Konstanz), a beautiful small city, dont leave out Mainau, which is only 15 mins away.
