Munich - my current hometown

Marienplatz - the center of town in Munich
In my eyes, Munich is: a touristic city / Bavarians / lots of beer / lots of meat / great food markets / expensive shopping / summer street musicians / beautiful churches / a 1 million city with the feeling of a village / Bayern-Muenchen soccer fans / blue skies / magificent architecture / traditional thinking / very clean / hardly any freaky people / many rich people / BMWs in the roads / great public swimming pools / the georgeous German Museum / many art muesums and galleries / many theatres and small stages / surrounded by lakes / close to the Alps / high rents for appartments / close to skiing / afterall a great city to live in.
A typical bavarian "Maibaum"
If you have a week in Munich some must sees in the city are:

- the pedestrian zone area
- the Viktualienmarkt
- the German Museum
- the old & new Pinakothek (art)
- the Olympic park
- the castle Nymphenburg
- the English Garden
- a few beergardens (Augustiner)
- Muellersche Volksbad
- the bars of Schwabing
- the bars of Glockenbachviertel
- the zoo
probably many more things .....
some very scenic areas or must sees outside of Munich:

- the Jochberg (if weather good)
- the Therme Erding (if weather bad)
- Monastery of Andechs (for lunch)
- the numerous lakes (e.g. Kochelsee)
- Zugspitze (highest mountain in G.)
- the closeby ski areas (if in winter)
probably many more things .....

Pros:"beautiful city, many lakes, close to Alps, good food, close to Italy , village feeling in big town"
Cons:"high rents, too much traffic, expensive compared to other German cities, Bavarians sometimes quite grumpy"

Really enjoyed your Munich pages - especially the "must and no must" - Great idea, and the "I myself am not a local but ..." was just so on the button for what everyone wants to know in a new place. Thank you. Happy travelling
