Franken is a region in Northern Bavaria in the east of the historic kingdom of Franken.
Not many people do live here; because of the beautiful landscape as well as a huge variety of historic buildings, which presents this region's long history and rich culture, but as well due to the fact of comparably little industry Franconia is said to be 'romantic'.
Its great wines as well as delicious beers out of an old tradition, make it a great destination for tourists.
Some of the touristic highlights in Western Franconia are connected on the "Romantic Street".
The region's biggest (and nicest) districts are Upper, Middle and Lower Franconia. From the travelling aspect, Franken is to be divided into 15 districts, which I will describe in my Travelogue
Wohlauf, die Luft geht frisch und rein,
wer lange sitzt, muß rosten;
schwer ist das Korn geraten;
sie können auf des Maines Flut
die Schiffe kaum verladen.
Bald hebt sich auch das Herbsten an,
die Kelter harrt des Weines;
der Winzer Schutzherr Kilian
beschert uns etwas Feines.
No news is, that I always have felt, am feeling and forever will feel highly attracted to any kind of water (read more on that in my Travelogue). Some of the nicest 'waters' on earth can be found in my beloved Franken, such as the river Main, which passes cities such as Kitzingen, Schweinfurt and Wuerzburg; I grew up on the shores of the river Pegnitz in Hersbruck and Nuernberg; the Koenig-Ludwig-Kanal; the Stausee of Happurg and the Baggersee, the lakes Dutzenteich and Woehrder See and many more still and deep waters.
- Pros:Greatest landscape on earth, lots of green & blue
- Cons:On first sight locals may seem a little bit ... strange
- In a nutshell:All in all the greatest place on earth!
