Mazatlán is a city (population about 360,000) in the Mexican state of Sinaloa, located on the Pacific coast, just across from the southernmost tip of Baja California. It is the second-largest city in the state, and Mexico's largest commercial port. It is also a popular tourist destination, its beaches lined with resort hotels.

Mazatlán is a Nahuatl word meaning "place of the deer". The city was founded in the 1820s, and served as the capital of Sinaloa from 1859 to 1873.

Objects of interest are La Isla de la Piedra in the bay, the mangroves with their bird wealth, an old Spanish fortress, the city hall, an observatory and one of the highest lighthouses of the world. Unforgettable for myself will be the ambience of the Plazuela del Machado in the Center of "Old Mazatlán" (which by the way is way nicer than the Zona Dorada).
