Never been out of Germany for such a long time; being to Mexico for six months, came back to Germany for nine months, having been absent for another 14 months of living in Guatemala and Mexico (again), I learnt what it is worth living in GERMANY. Never ever missed my motherland before ... till having experienced Guatemala.
Now you may ask: why does she write such about her 'motherland'? The reason is, that I have never felt that attracted to my Mum's country although I was born and raised there. Now, having been in a foreign country, where I absolutely did NOT get my feet planted on the ground, I know what's worth it.
But which ideas do you foreigners get, when visualizing of Germany or even coming here on vacation? Probably you'll consider it as the country of the famous bratwurst and beer, imagine all of us wearing lederhosen all the time and speeding without limit on the autobahn. But this is just the cover of course. Being Europe's most densely populated country is way too compound and fascinating to reduce it to plain stereotypes. For visitors, the world-class museums and legendary nightlife here are just part of the tempt.
Of course, Berlin, the capital and the above mentioned are not the only reasons to come to Germany: amazing, memorable landscapes bring up the desire and call for exploration. There are powerful rivers flowing through important cities, such as Cologne on the river Rhine, Regensburg on the Donau or the Main passing beautiful Würzburg. You can come to see mountains and peaks not only in the Alps, there are impressive lakes, such as the Chiemsee, islands like Sylt and lot more to see and do. All together they build the huge, incomparable scenery of Germany.
Most important, though: it's all about culture! There is an awful lot of museums, churches, palaces and other veritable treasure chests. Architecture represents everything from very modern to ancient ruins. Food and wine ranges from the cheapest take-away-food to delicious haute cuisine. A long history of musicians and composers invites many people to the concert halls. And last but not least at all: you can wander on the traces of some of the world's biggest brains, such as Einstein, Martin Luther, Goethe and Bach. Mozart was NOT German, though ;-)
Highlight Nightlife In the Altstadt (historic city center) of many cities you can experience Germany's aborigines in their natural surrounding.
Germans certainly have learnt how to party. So come join us on many oportunities, such as the famous Oktoberfest in Munich or on many rock, pop, whatever concerts, in pubs, lounges, discos in student towns ... .
Highlight Landscapes As I mentioned above, Germany also offers many chances for lovers of Pacha Mama: you can come here to explore the Wattenmeer (Wadden Sea) which is surrounding the East Frisian Islands (one of my favorite regions), go canoeing on many romantic lakes and rivers, go hiking in various national parks, and always enjoy the most beautiful sceneries you can imagine.
Highlight Historic Towns There is a lot of UNESCO World Heritage to admire, when you come to Germany. One of them is the picturesque
Bamberg in Northern Bavaria. All of them are places of great beauty. Some of them have well-preserved their medieval looks, others enclose ancient fortifications or charm as they are practically outdoor museums.
