...the beauty of lebanon. I found myself just absolutely speechless for most of my trip. Even just walking around in Beirut near my hotel, there was so much to see, so much to take in.
Beirut is one of those places that when you're shopping in the Hamra area or go to Verdun then you have no idea that 10 minutes walk away lies the med. Likewise when walking along the Corniche you don't get the sense of the hustle and bussle of the city, like it's not really there.
As a general rule i like to walk around and get myself lost in the places that i go. I manage to find things that the guides don't necessarily tell you about. Lebanon is one of those places that is definately good to get lost in. Not once did i feel threatened or in danger. I urge anyone going there for the first time to walk into the city get yourself lost, then get your map out to find your way back.
I take a lot of photographs, in fact i took two camera's with me to lebanon and i think that looking back i should have taken a lot more. But another tip is to put the camera down in every place you visit there. Take in the sights for awhile then take your pictures. I think people are concentrating too much on trying to preserve what they are seeing with camera's and video. For Lebanon the memories are more important... so take it in.
Normally going to a new place by myself i feel a little apprehensive at first, Lebanon i got there and i felt like i was coming home, it was the strangest feeling in the world. I think it may have been due to the amount of research i did on the country before i went... all the pictures i looked at, what i have heard about the people, all the books i've read, and not only did Lebanon not let me down one bit, it surpassed all of my expectations... so much so that i went back again a few months later and i'm planning my trip there again this year.
I suppose in a way i wish i had discovered lebanon earlier because there doesn't seem like enough time in the world left to take it all in... on the other hand i'm annoyed that i found the place right now at this point in my life, I have fallen in love with the country and it's people, and I just want to keep going back but I have so many other places to see, but i don't think i'll find a place that compares to this.
My pages of the places i visited in Lebanon will be coming soon so wait around for those...
Lebanon is full of natural beauty, the sunsets are appreciated by everyone, everyday. the beaches, the mountains, the waterfalls and springs... even without such a rich history and amazing architecture this place would be an amazingly picturesque place.
- Pros:Beauty, Food, People, Culture, everything you could want is there.
- Cons:The flights are expensive, and at bad times, if they weren't then i would be there every weekend.
- In a nutshell:Everyone thinks Lebanon is Dangerous, but you feel safer than being in London!

Good to meet you yesterday Gareth. I've enjoyed your intro to Lebanon and look forward to reading more on your other pages. Some great shots, though I expected some B&W :)
Nice page :)
I've joined you in the support for Lebanon. Check out my picture. Peace!!!
lebanese? hospitable? i can't tell you how many times lebanese i met on dinner were excusing themselves to bathroom or engage in phone call once the check was submited. call the lebanese anything you wish, but being generous or hospitable....NO WAY!!!
Both, actually, although I'm a bit down on Dylan since he said he did it for the money. We are going to see Arlo Guthrie tommorrow night...
I feel even more homesick now...Great description!
