I've seen both Banff and Jasper, and while Banff generally gets all the hype, I've made up my mind: I like Jasper better. The scenery actually isn't as good as some parts of Banff National Park (like Lake Louise, Peyto Lake, and Moraine Lake) but there a lot less people, a lot less commercialization, and a lot more wilderness. At the time of my trip (2001), I hadn't become so interested in hiking yet (in fact, it was this trip that made me start hiking more), so I still spend a good amount of time sightseeing from my car or overlooks. Still, I found the scenery there to be immensely stunning and spectacular. |
