Somehow, Winchester, Virginia qualifies much more for the name of "The Big Apple" than New York City ever would. Winchester is Virginia's capital of apples, with numerous orchards scattered throughout the region. It is also probably because of Winchester that Virginia produces the sixth-largest harvest of apples in the US annually. The town of Winchester itself is also quite pleasant and historic, with ornate buildings and big apples scattered throughout. Winchester lies in the Shenandoah Valley, and from parts of the town you may be able to see the Alleghenies and Massanutten Mountain. Winchester is located off I-81, about 1.5 hours from Washington DC and 2 hours from Fredericksburg.

Thanks for the tips on rural Winchester. I recently got to explore a lot of the old downtown area and really enjoyed it!
