There are a lot of things I could say about New York. I hadn't visited the city since April 2003 (my longest absence ever from this city) and was prevented from reaching the city in January 2006 due to a large snowstorm. When I was a kid, I went to New York City 4-5 times a year (well, mainly the Bronx) because my grandparents lived there; now that they don't, I visit much less.
I have never visited any other city like New York. Personally, I don't find the city too likeable because of its subways, crime, people, and general uncleanliness. But New York is also awesome because of its scale, its history, and the fact that there is no city like it. There is probably no skyline in the world more recognizable than New York; and in ways, New York is quite a beautiful place. |
| | New York City is a six-hour drive from Fredericksburg, VA- too close to fly and too far to visit frequently. Because of its proximity, spending more than an extended weekend there seems like wasting vacation days. I've seen many of New York's sights like the Empire State Building observation deck, Rockefeller Christmas Tree, Serendipity, and Columbia University, but those generally go back past 2001, so I don't have any reliable information on that and won't post anything about that here. |

footstool Thu Oct 2, 2008 12:16 UTC San Francisco's Chinatown has a restaurant, then 3 houses with no store, then a Chinese grocery, then 3 houses with no store, then a Chinese gift shop, etc. It is watered down, diluted, and "lite," like the culture and everything else on the West Coast. | Dabs Sun Jul 1, 2007 23:35 UTC The info on the Top of the Rock was very helpful, I don't recall it being open the last time I was there. | penumbra Tue Sep 26, 2006 01:46 UTC Impressive views from the top of The Rock, especially looking down at St Patrick's Cathedral. |
