A scenic, historical state | Fall Foliage, Fredericksburg |
Virginia is one of America's most scenic and historical states. It's been the birthplace of eight presidents: George Washington, T. Jefferson, J. Madison, J. Monroe, W. H. Harrison, Woodrow Wilson, and some others. Virginia's also been the site of the heaviest fighting in the Civil War, from Chancellorville to Fredericksburg to Bull Run. It can also claim to have the first permenant English settlement in the New World, Jamestown. In terms of scenery, Virginia has the beautiful Blue Ridge Mts, scenic caverns, the Great Falls of the Potomac, many large rivers, and swamps and marshes. There's also Virginia Beach, VA's prime beach destination, and Chincoteague Island, a draw for horse-lovers. |
| | Besides the most obvious attractions, there are dozens of wineries throughout the Blue Ridge, Shenandoah Valley, and many pick-your-own orchards. Virginia is at it's best in spring and fall, when the skies are generally clear, air quality is good, and the land is either coated with flowers or bright fall foliage. Winter brings snow, but the trees are leaf-less, and in summer, temperatures are hot (and it's humid). |
