This page is currently under construction; I am editing many of my older tips (anything before December 2006), and this will probably take quite a while.
Washington DC is the capital of the United States of America, and is also the center of power (and corruption) in this nation. There's quite a bit to see in this city for tourists: the Smithsonian Museums, the monuments and memorials, the European-style government office buildings. There is also, of course, the city's high crime rates, horrible traffic, and a host of other cons. |
| | I've been to DC many times (upwards of 25) but I've still been limited to only a few areas of the cities. My earlier visits always involved seeing the Smithsonian Museums (especially Air and Space and Natural History) or the National Gallery of Art; later trips included visits to the memorials throughout the National Mall. However, I've yet to go up the Washington Monument, see the pandas of the National Zoo, tour the White House, enter the US Capitol, or see the Supreme Court (all things I hope to do soon).
There are also some tips on this page about other areas nearby, such as the spectacular Great Falls of the Potomac River which is only 15 miles from downtown Washington DC, and the George Washington Parkway in Virginia, a scenic riverside road. |

gilabrand Mon Oct 19, 2009 08:04 UTC Great opening photo. | gamma28 Mon Jan 1, 2007 00:26 UTC The statue of Lincoln inside is very famous and they have some good quotes. Also, beside the main steps, you can go under the monument to see how it was built. | Pawtuxet Sun Dec 31, 2006 01:17 UTC Nice assortment of attractions in DC. Smithsonian is awesome, isn't it? You would never finish exploring the district and the museums. Love to go in the spring. |
