Sichuan Wuchaoshoh - Taipei

Sichuan Wuchaoshoh

Sichuan Wuchaoshoh: Sichuan Wontons

Sichuan Wuchaoshoh (四川吳抄手) is a relatively popular Taipei restaurant serving spicy Sichuan food. The restaurant is famous for its chaoshoh, a wonton-like dumpling. Chaoshoh are served in a spicy soup, and this is one of the best known restaurants in Taipei for eating chaoshoh. But I didn't find this restaurant's chaoshoh to be quite as good as its mapo tofu. In general, the dishes here were okay, but not excellent; service is good, and prices aren't too unreasonable.

Favorite Dish: The mapo tofu; it was a little on the spicy side and there was a bit too much pork, but it was still very good, with just the right amount of sauce.

Dessert- green tea ice cream - Taipei

Dessert- green tea ice cream

Chitaka: Chitaka Chitaka Review

Chitaka is a restaurant franchise in Taipei, with at least eight different locations over the city. They supposedly serve good curry (I didn't try it), but I came for their fried pork cutlets. There are many different set meals and combos possible; the set meals generally come with too much Japanese seafood and miso soup (neither of which I am big fans of). The food here is somewhat overpriced, considering that you can get fried pork cutlets in other restaurants for as little as NT 50. Service is generally good.

Favorite Dish: I didn't like most of the dishes here but I loved the deep-fried pork cutlets, which were one of the best I had in Taiwan (with the exception of a restaurant in Wufeng). They are fried just right and don't taste too greasy, its absolutely perfect. Prices for the pork cutlet start at a little over NT 200.

Also be sure to try the green tea ice cream.

Comparison: more expensive than average

Directions: Many locations around Taipei, you're bound to run into one while you're there, like I did

Price: US$11-20

Din Tai Feng: Good food and service Din Tai Fung Review

Din Tai Feng (Din Tai Fung) is the considered by many people to be the best restaurant in Taipei (The New York Times once called it one of the best in the world). The restaurant lives up to the hype, though the crowds and lines here will make me reconsider coming back.

Despite the immense number of customers, Din Tai Feng's service is fast and very good, and it's food lives up to its fame (with one exception, a bowl of wild chicken noodles; stick with the xiao long bao related foods while you're there).

Because of its popularity, Din Tai Fung has branched out, and you can now taste the same food in Japan and Los Angeles.

Favorite Dish: Well, of course, the xiao long bao (small steam dumpling); meat wrapped in a small steamed bun, folded delicately, probably the best I've ever had (with the possible exception of a restaurant in the New York Chinatown, now closed).

iR China Sichuan Food - Taipei

iR China Sichuan Food

iR China: Good Sichuan food

I know of that there are at least two iR China restaurants in the city of Taipei, one in Taipei 101 and one in the Breeze Department Store (Shopping Center, mall, etc.) I went to the one at the Breeze Department Store.

The food at iR China is decent, but the prices are pushing it a bit. Portions are generally on the smaller side, considering what you pay for it. Still, iR China has the best Sichuan food that I've tried in Taipei. Also, the menus here are in both Chinese and English.

Favorite Dish: iR China's Mapo Tofu is spicy and the best I've had in Taipei. It's made with just the right portions of meat, peppers, and tofu, so I was very satisified with this dish, though not the price (about NT 350)

Comparison: more expensive than average

Directions: Two locations (that I know of): Fourth floor of Taipei 101, and ground floor of the Breeze Department Store

Price: US$21-30
