A Learning JOurney

by mystrappyshoes - last update: Dec 25, 2004

I would like to reflect the truth the way i see it

Signs in the taxi
I was looking forward to KL, but i think i looked forward to much and expected too much (because i heard lots from so many people) that i think i imagined it to be a haven of sorts.

While it did give me a break from all my work and stress, somehow I didn't feel refreshed.

Anyway, before i get complaints, I just want to say that I would like to put down all my experiences (positive and negative) down, so please please do not get mad at me. I do appreciate comments and your own opinions too! =D
traffic jam at its best

Travelling to and fro

Transportation is a hassle, because in the Bukit Bintang area, there are so many vehicles and lots of construction going on.

The best time to travel is before 11am, and I don't have a good impression of some cab drivers (i like the malay and indian ones cos they are really sincere and don't try to over charge but I can't say the same for the Chinese ones). I didn't dare to take a bus or walk too much, because i felt so out of place and so lost.

Some places (Jln Alor? can't rem but its opp BB plaza) have a large population of other Africans and Burmese and I honestly felt very intimidated because they kept staring at us. Roads-wise, it isn't easy to find places because of alot of construction, nor was it safe to go out late at night.

And can someone tell me if there is a Man U store in KL? I went to Lot 10, they said it moved to KLCC, so went there, same story but moved to Great Eastern, so went there, then it became 1 Utama, then Sungei wang, basically just travelling unnecessarily. But at least this gave me a chance to see more sides of KL.

Generally, I like the laidback style of the peple, and its really sweet that they place so much emphasis on family and friends, unlike in Singapore where we think money is the most important thing.

Anyway, by the time we were going back, we were really tired, and unfortunately we couldn't agree on how best to get back to singapore. there was a massive jam at the casueway as usual even at 12 midnight. For me, i think its best to take a morning coach up to KL, and evening coach back because they take the Second Link and that way u miss the jam and the sun.
Starhill shopping complex

FOod and ShoppIng

Food wise, I have no complaints, I ate so much I must have put on pounds and pounds. SCARY! I tried Li Yen at JW Marriot, and didn't find it as good as expected, but room service at RItz was GREAT. i'll have more on Ritz under the tips section.
The only street hawker food i had was wanton mee, great black sauce and chilli and beverage! But if you want to eat at KFC, you can't mix the different types of chicken (as in you can't have 1 original and 1 spicy if you get a 2 piece meal), so for people like me who like variety, too bad!
Food is not expensive in KL, so you can eat eat and eat haha!

Shopping...Disappointing...No doubt the exchange rate makes it attractive but I didn't really find that many things i liked. Will talk more under tips as well! =p

Did i also forget to mention i was staying next to the hotel whre the Singaporean IBM lady was murdered? *shudder*

Don't be afraid to tell both the good and the bad! As you know, expectations have a lot to do with how much you enjoy a trip, so it's very valuable to hear both positive & negative ; )
